Wizard Tattoo - Wizard Tattoo Review

The Fourth Sin: Overall Discussion: Haunting melodies, heavy riffs… lyrics inspired by comics, horror, and fantasy

Immediately before the listener presses that play button –(personally), each piece feels like flicking through four pages -having a musical score of their own of a short novel. The music/story is ink-in, a lyrical concept story about a man who starts hearing a dark voice shortly after getting a tattoo.

Throughout the four tracks, listen to his musical journey of delusion. Is he becoming a wizard, or is he just going mad? As one continues their dark and spellbinding journey where, the first three pieces, Wizard Tattoo, A Wizard’s Lie, and Wizard Knife Fight, deliver and provide the listener’s ears with this captivating heavy doom atmosphere. This also includes influences/elements of classic hard rock, prog metal/rock and jazz.

Wizard Tattoo - Wizard Tattoo Review

Delivered by multi-instrumentalist artistry of excellent devilmanship that utilizes these spellbinding brewing composition/characteristics (convenient to place at the right moment) of guitar work of summoning catchy riffs with progressive and (distorted) heavy-blues and groovy-rhythms/fret-board solos and groovy bluesy bass riffs. Hard rock drum strikes, distorted vocals/ghostly vocals and narration, bewitching acoustic guitar sections.

(track three) “Bringing a touch of magic to the bar-room brawl, Wizard Knife Fight explores in greater detail the actions of the protagonist with a touch of humour and epic guitar riffs”, non-standard time signatures and intricate guitar leads, heavy fuzz, folk harmonies divine a serene but sombre mood, spellbinding progressive bridge of orchestration and electronics -with an altogether of providing the listener’s ears with this entertaining theatrically -at times eerie atmosphere. Fun, but dark-bewitching and spellbinding release from the moment of pressing that play button.

At the same time, Wizard Tattoo is also well composed in songwriting and music, each piece is compelling and astonishing, and production and sound quality are top-notch.

Wizard Tattoo is two played-out concepts, “tattoos of wizards” and bands with the name “Wizard” in their name, and mashes them together. It’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but it came about from a midlife crisis that I went through during the pandemic. Everyone reaches a point where they evaluate their accomplishments, choices, and existence. Some people push through and keep going, while others self-destruct. [Wizard Tattoo]

The album comes to an end with the last song, No Return. Where one is accompanied by the soft patter of rainfall, a bewitching acoustic guitar, and this Lord of the Rings/Gelfling (The Dark Crystal) and Flight of the Dragons-folk harmonies (pan flute) divines a serene but sombre mood.

We want to give a shoutout to Deviate PR for letting us review his self-titled album. Now, we’re going to wrap it up by talking about the final three sins and concluding the review.

The Last Three Sins

The Fifth Sin, The Memorabilia: The whole thing, the various composition/characteristics, moods/atmosphere. Especially the last track, No Return is mesmerizing, powerful, and magical about the piece -draws the listener in.

The Sixth Sin, The Artwork:

The artwork fits the story concept well. But I also see Gandalf the grey/white from the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings within the artwork.

The Seventh Sin, Disrelish:

Nothing to disrelish within the musical spectrum of Wizard Tattoo, and his self-titled album.

This concludes the Wizard Tattoo, self-titled album review.
