Before diving into the review, I’d like to introduce Arallu‘s latest single, Battleground, which is set to feature on their forthcoming album, D-Moon from the Ancient World, scheduled for release in 2025.
“Battleground” describes, like all other songs in this full album, the Middle East unfinished battles between the superpowers from the Middle East of the ancient times until the present days. From the Mesopotamian Empire through the Ottoman Empire to the division of the Middle East into countries that have not been able to reach a state of peace for decades of darkness, and still live in times of constant terror. The D-MOON album actually divided into pieces of music that deal from the ancient times when the demons ruled the desert to the establishment of the empire and man’s control of the desert. [Arallu]
The moment the listener hits that button, they are enveloped by a powerful wave of intensity, as raw aggression and commanding vocals explode through the music and lyrics, creating an electrifying atmosphere. The track plunges the listener into a torrent of fierce energy, where the fierce vocals and driving rhythms slice through the soundscape, leaving an indelible mark on the listener’s soul.
As the Battleground unfolds, it takes the listener on an emotionally charged lyrical expedition that delves into the depths of war and strife. The words of “Battleground” paint a stark picture of the brutal realities of combat, capturing both the anguish and the unwavering resolve of those who fight. With each note, the song immerses listeners in a powerful narrative that confronts the grim aspects of warfare. The evocative lyrics of “Battleground” not only highlight the devastating impact of conflict but also celebrate the indomitable spirit of the warriors who face such harrowing challenges.
As the song, unfolds further, Battleground emerges as a natural extension of the band’s recent work, Death Covenant, seamlessly weaving together the threads of black and death metal infused with Middle Eastern elements. However, this track introduces a refreshing twist that sets it apart. The innovation lies not in the production techniques but in the devilmanship itself, showcasing a revitalized approach that breathes new life into their signature sound.
Accompanying this single is a formidable new line-up that enhances the overall experience, imbuing Battleground with a vibrant and refined quality in its instrumental arrangement. The synergy among the musicians creates a dynamic atmosphere, elevating the track to new heights and ensuring that listeners are captivated by its intensity and depth.
Battleground captivates the listener’s heart and soul with the guitar work of Gal Pixel and Haim Death, who deliver a feast of intricate and fierce riffs complemented by melodic leads. The drumming, executed by Nir Death, adds a robust and dynamic energy that propels the track forward, creating an exhilarating listening experience. At the heart of Arallu lies the creative genius of Butchered Genie King, whose music and lyrics serve as the driving force behind the composition. His commanding cries, that echo powerfully throughout the piece, drawing listeners in and leaving a lasting impression. The bass riffs provided by Butchered Genie King further enrich the song, establishing a deep and solid foundation that enhances the overall sound. Together, these elements create a compelling blend of aggression and melody, making Battleground a forbidden fruit of art, a heart — pumping adrenaline of pure underground extreme metal.
Battleground boasts an impeccable production quality that elevates every sound, note, and breath to a level of artistry akin to a genie trapped within a bottle. The Last Three Sins
Let’s discuss the last three sins of Arallu and their single, Battleground
The Fifth Sin, The Memorabilia:
I am truly an admirer of Arallu and their intense, extreme sound. Their latest album, Death Covenant, was a fruit of art, but now with the release of Battleground, we can see the band evolving and gaining even more strength. This single strikes me as a powerful and raw expression of artistry, especially with the new line-up that brings a revitalizing energy to their music.
“Battleground” is not just a song; it’s a testament to the band’s growth and a thrilling glimpse into their future.
The Sixth Sin, The Artwork:
The artwork depicts a dark, swirling, abstract landscape resembling Arallu’s homeland. Three cloaked figures on horseback are in the middle ground, and two more cloaked figures stand in the foreground, giving the work a dark tone and if the figures are lost souls… think about the title and lyrical theme….
The Seventh Sin, Disrelish:
Nothing to disrelish within the musical spectrum of Arallu and their single, Battleground. Therefore, this concludes Arallu and their single, Battleground.
