The First Three Sins of Death

Let’s start by discussing the first three sins of Gods & Punks and their album, Death

The First Sin, The Strings/Keys: Showcases a mix of fuzzy distortion, combining the powerful, heavy guitar sound of Black Sabbath with the complex, melodious style of Rush and incorporating intense, resonant chords and driving progressive rock riffs. The Second Sin, The Vocals: Involves this devilish mixing of Ozzy and Geddy Lee vocals. The Third Sin—The Percussions: Delves into the vast world of drum work, which features various tones, tempos, fills, precise beats, and shimmering cymbals that drive the music.

The Fourth Sin: Overall Discussion:

A vintage yet timeless sound, resulting in an impressive impending soundtrack.

The opening piece, Slowburner, greets the listener as soon as the listener presses the play button with this burning welcome of progressive instrumental and vocal intro.

The listener continues their journey with the second piece, Loss of Reality, and the remaining five songs. Gods & Punks’ impending album, ‘Death,’ unfolds as a cathartic exploration of frontman Alexandre’s harrowing near-death experience in 2021. The title ‘Death’ is a powerful metaphor for the band’s transformative journey in this album, both musically and thematically. Death is a narrating story that takes the listener through seven tracks, spanning forty minutes of intense musical exploration.

Gods & Punks’ recent album, “Death,” is a forbidden fruit of art; the band skilfully crafts a musical experience as a gateway to exploration, seamlessly blending the heavy riffage reminiscent of Black Sabbath with the intricate and mesmerising melodies reminiscent of Rush. What sets Gods & Punks apart is their ability to infuse progressive moments and cosmic resonance of psych/space rock, occult rock, proto-doom, stoner and sludge metal into their music. This creates a unique sound that captivates the listener and penetrates their soul and ears with their music.

Moreover, the album takes the listener on an experimental journey, incorporating various sound effects, tones, moods, tempos, and atmospheres to enrich the musical spectrum and add layers of depth to the overall experience.

Let’s take a moment and discuss the production quality of ‘Death’, which is truly top-notch, with every element meticulously crafted to perfection. The intricate details, such as the varying tones, distinct notes, resonant chords, precise beats, and shimmering cymbals, can be heard with astounding clarity. The song’s musical composition, lyrical content, and overall artistry are executed with exceptional skill and finesse, showcasing a forbidden fruit of art, a level of devilmanship. In particular, Pedro Canhetti‘s guitar work and Alexandre‘s vocals demonstrate devilmanship rarely seen.

Gods & Punks‘ sound is a fascinating blend of doom, stoner, sludge, and progressive elements, complemented by extended progressive passages. At times, these elements converge, while at other times, they evoke the early Black Sabbath sound from their self-titled debut, a blend reminiscent of Rush with bluesy undertones, or simply something that leans towards progressive rock. This unique sound will pique your interest and keep you excited and mesmerised throughout the album.

Gods & Punks’ album is a bold departure from traditional genres, (again) blending progressive, psych/space rock, occult rock, doom, stoner, and sludge metal into something unique, fresh, and worth your time. This defiance of genres will intrigue you and open your mind to new musical experiences.

The album comes to an end with the last song, Black Box. Thanks to Qabar PR for letting us review Gods & Punks and their album, Death. We will wrap it up by discussing the final three sins and concluding the review.

The Last Three Sins

Let’s discuss the last three sins of Gods & Punks and their album, Death

The Fifth Sin, The Memorabilia:

For us, Alexandre‘s vocals’ devilmanship is a standout feature of the album, thanks to his remarkable ability to seamlessly combine the vocal tones of both Ozzy Osbourne and Geddy Lee into his voice. Furthermore, Pedro Canhetti‘s guitar devilmanship, which interplays with Alexandre‘s vocals, creates a musical experience as satisfying as warm butter melting in your mouth. Both artists’ performances capture something special but warm and mesmerizing within each song, especially the sixth song, The Space Between Space and the closing song, Black Box.

The Sixth Sin, The Artwork:

When you listen to Gods & Punk‘s album “Death,” you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a hidden gem from the 1970s. Its vintage yet timeless sound results in an impressive impending soundtrack.

The Seventh Sin, Disrelish:

Nothing to disrelish within the musical spectrum of Gods & Punks and their album, Death. Therefore, this concludes Gods & Punks and their album, Death review.
