The Fourth Sin, Overall Discussion

The first song, Vultures Await the Flesh, welcomes the listener with a phonograph audio clip as soon as they push the play button. This is followed by an awakening of aggressive instrumentals and vocals.

As the audience embarks on their journey with the second track, All Must Disappear, along with the subsequent eight pieces, they are enveloped in a poetic exploration of deep themes such as fanaticism, corruption, and the challenges of existence. Purphoros serves as a tribute to classic thrash metal, featuring a ten-track arrangement that unfolds over fifty captivating minutes. Each piece in this album presents a distinct fusion of tempos, complex compositions, varied structures, aggressive outbursts and anger, and evolving tones.

Ormagoden’s album Purphoros not only provides the listener with speed, energy, and melody with old-school thrash aggression, but also captures the aura, spirit, and inspiration of early Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and a few others to name. Thus creating an old-school delight of fruit of art. This nostalgic homage to the pioneers of metal resonates deeply with fans, evoking memories of headbanging anthems and electrifying performances. Ormagoden successfully melds these influences into a fresh sound that both honours the past and stands confidently in the present.

Purphoros expertly intertwines vocals and instrumental components to craft a rich musical journey. Each track stands out with its own distinct tempos, composition and more, showcasing a creative fruit of artistic force. The result is an exhilarating mix of (as mentioned) speed, energy, seductive melodies, and the raw intensity of classic thrash that is sure to captivate listeners. The production is impeccably refined, bringing every note and nuance to vibrant life. While the sound is sharp, polished, and modern, it also maintains a tightness that pays tribute to the roots of old-school thrash metal.

Ormagoden’s Purphoros is a forceful instrumental assault that echoes like bells in the ears of the listener and reverberates through the speakers. The assault of the two guitars is what defines this sound experience. Together with Victor Lachat on rhythm guitar and vocals alongside Nicolas Bourgade on lead guitar, creating a vibrant blend of fierce riffs and melodic solos. Their guitar devilmanship draws heavily from classic thrash metal, offering a blend of speed and precision that shapes their distinctive sound.

Victor Lachat’s vocals are fierce and unrefined, perfectly aligning with the band’s aggressive thrash metal sound. Alex Muscara takes charge of the bass, laying down a robust foundation and infectious groove that enhances their music. His backing vocals inject an additional burst of energy and richness into the band’s overall sonic experience. Leo Mouchonay on drums delivers powerful and precise rhythms and energetic beats that propel the band’s electrifying performances, his style harmonizing seamlessly with the rapid tempo characteristic of thrash metal.

The intricate interplay between the guitars not only captivates but also energises, pulling the audience into a whirlwind of sound. Additionally, the overall impact is an exhilarating trip that leaves listeners wanting more as the rhythm and the ferocious riff portion lock in with unrelenting drumming and pulsing bass lines.

Ormagoden‘s album, Purphoros, has a sound that will appeal to both new and seasoned music lovers. A must-have addition to any music collection, each track is the result of their artistic endeavours and commitment to creating extreme music that a profound emotional impact on listeners.

As the alum concludes with the final track, The Worst of Human Heart, and the last notes dissipate into the darkness. We would like to thank GlobMetal Promotions for letting us review Ormagoden and their album Purphoros. We will wrap it up by discussing the final three sins and concluding the review.

The Fifth Sin, The Memorabilia

Ormagoden’s Purphoros strikes me as a powerful sonic experience that not only captures the essence of old-school sound and vibe but also blends it seamlessly with modern thrash metal. The production quality is a fruit of art, complemented by the band’s intricate-fruit of art instrumental compositions and their devilmanship. Each note, chord, and vocal can be distinctly heard, reminiscent of holding a shell to your ear. Additionally, the devilmanship is executed flawlessly, but it’s Victor Lachat‘s vocals that stand out to me as a remarkable fruit of art. He delivers the music and lyrics with intense passion and emotion.

Ormagoden - Purphoros Review

The Sixth Sin, The Artwork

A dramatic artwork, with a formidable figure that evokes the essence of ancient gods or heroic sculptures. One skeleton appears to hold a scythe, symbolizing death or the transition to the afterlife, while another seems to reach for the contrasting themes of life and suffering depicted by the figures above.

The lower part of the artwork is adorned with scattered dots that resemble ashes or dust, subtly suggesting themes of mortality and decay, thereby connecting the overarching ideas of life, death, and the unseen forces that influence them.

The Seventh Sin, Disrelish

There is nothing to dislike in the musical offerings of Ormagoden and their album Purphoros. Thus, we conclude our review of Ormagoden and their album Purphoros.
