The Fourth Sin: Overall Discussion:

From the grimy depths of London’s music underground, a new melodic death metal force emerges

Before jumping into the article, I usually present a new band, but this time we will also introduce a record label and band. Emerging from the murky underground of London comes a new, powerful melodic death metal band called Scale Of Attrition. Five-piece Scale of Attrition releases two EP-length tracks of outstanding ferocity and grace on 8 November 2024 via boutique label Drowning Sea God Records, established in November 2022.

When the play button is pushed, the listener is welcomed into the expansive world of Scale Of Attrition. Their songs Broken Bonds and Panacea lead the listener through a whirlwind of melodic instrumentals and vocals.

This melodic death metal will captivate the listeners’ ears as both songs unfold over the course of ten minutes. This will engulf the listener in a mesmerizing musical journey that highlights the result of skilled and fruit of art composition in the instrumental, songwriting, and overall music of both tracks.

The complex interaction of the rhythmic guitar and drum components in Broken Bonds and Panacea forms an engaging and enveloping sonic environment. The songs showcase powerful melodic guitar riffs (sometimes heart-warming), intricate drum patterns that build up to intense and blistering crescendos, and a vocal delivery that is both dynamic and emotive, evoking a profound sense of urgency and energy. The heightened tempo and increased aggression contribute to a more dynamic and intense listening experience, drawing the listener deeper into the musical journey.

The sound production and recording of both songs are what really make them come alive, with a rich sound that is powerful, modern and executed. Allowing every detail of the composition to shine through — every droplet of composition, recording, and sound allows every detail of the composition to be heard clearly. Every element of the music, recording, and sound is evident in both songs.  Each song demonstrates various sound, tempo, mood, atmosphere, and instrumental and vocal compositions. One certainty is that these songs were meticulously crafted with meticulous attention to every detail. Broken Bonds has a brief moment of mechanical drum work, and the vocals seem to change tone and pitch from time to time. There is also the encounter of the transition in Broken Bonds, which introduces a warm and inviting instrumentation that gradually builds up to a climactic finale.

Both pieces of music showcase this fruit of art composition throughout their music scoring, instrumentation, and vocal devilmanship that all executed with perfection (a devilmanship whuch includes members of Meridian Sun) along with a solid production that is robust, solid, and powerful from start to finish.

Overall Scale Of Attrition a solid and powerful release, that suits fans of Amon Amarth, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity and Scar Symmetry

The EP comes to an end. We want to give a shoutout to Drowning Sea God Records for letting us review, Scale Of Attrition. We shall conclude the review by discussing the final three sins.

The Last Three Sins

Let’s discuss the last three sins of Scale Of Attrition and their Two-track EP, Broken Bonds and Panacea

The Fifth Sin, The Memorabilia:

I was deeply captivated and completely swept away by both of these songs, particularly by their composition in their instrumentation/vocals, music and devilmanship. All delivered in a fresh, contemporary yet traditional setting. Furthermore, both songs and the band’s performance and delivery are a fruit of art.

The Sixth Sin, The Artwork:

Both cover art is by Thomas Lacey (COWER, The Ghost of a Thousand). The artwork is based on Gustave Doré’s The Eagle from Dante’s The Divine Comedy – a perfect accompaniment to the band’s death metal roots and modern ambition.

The Seventh Sin, Disrelish:

Nothing to disrelish within the musical spectrum of Scale Of Attrition and their Two-Track EP, Broken Bonds and Panacea. Therefore, this concludes Scale Of Attrition and their Two-Track EP, Broken Bonds and Panacea.
